Are there any issues for storing Macros in Word ? I am an experienced macro user but am finding that some of my ‘tried and tested’ macros cause a serious error in Word and it shuts down. I type huge volumes of repeated information, like addresses etc, and carry out many repeated tasks so I use a combination of macros, autotext and autocorrect to speed things up.
This has worked perfectly for the past 12 years using Office and Professional and it worked fine during my Office Home free trial. I subscribed on 14th February and it had been fine until 2 days ago. I keep a list of the macros I use for each type of job or client and usually just copy and paste into Visual Basic. However, I have now tried a couple that cause this error by recording them again and also by copying and pasting and they cause the same error both ways. These macros are not connected and are completely different.

It involves a split table and moving cells from the bottom to the top as I work down a list. This has worked like a dream for 12 years and was working perfectly until a couple of days ago just like a tables issue addressed in another post.

I accept that the tables issue was partly my fault but certainly the default options were changed. At the same time I remember Autoformat As You Type settings reverted back to default settings and some of my Autocorrect entries disappeared.
As stated above, the macro issue involves a table of links I have to research for a customer. I have got around the problem by making everything bold and then setting up a macro which simply takes the bold off and copies the information in the next cell I have to look at web address which I then paste into my browser. Its not ideal but it works especially as now when opening an existing Word document it allows you the option of carrying on where you left off. It sounds like you are copying the macros into the normal template.
That being the case it is likely that the normal template has become corrupt – and you should start by renaming it, so that Word will build a new one. Word will store up VBA error conditions that can only be removed by re-booting so that is your next step.
Restart Word. Set the options to always create a backup and to prompt to save the normal template. Close Word and save the normal template at the prompt your renamed original will not be affected. Copy your macros to new documents for the various clients and save them as macro enabled templates in a trusted folder not the add-ins or user templates folder, the latter being where Word will try and save it. Open Word and from the developer toolbar add the template you wish to work with.
This will load it as an add-in and your macros it contains will be available to all your documents. When you restart Word it will remain listed but unchecked. You can check it again when working for that client. Simpler macros do work – instead of using the I have not split the table and have put everything in bold and set the macro to take it off to kind of mark where I am.
I have tried replacing the with another character and it had the same effect. It cannot be that I’m working with a table as I just tried to do exactly the same two macros, ie the one and Append to Stab one, using just text the majority of the time its just weblinks I’m working through and both caused the same problems.

If you share the code that you have, someone might be able to suggest improvements.
