I was even about to download a new driver altogether but luckily I found the problem before that Turns out my playback options had switched which was really stupid so this is what I did. On the bottom right hand side of my tool bar I located my volume control and right clicked. When the menu popped up I clicked on the sound option and once that menu appeared I went all the way to the top where there are 3 tabs and clicked on the first one which is playback. Once there I had two options one which was digital device and speakers.

Mine was on the digital output device which had it wacked so I clicked on speakers ,apply, and okay and wah la my sound was magically working again. Anyways Im not sure every body’s problem is this simple but just maybe. I hope this was helpful! See more. You helped me too. Thanks a lot!!!! Sorry but this didnt work for me, only one option came up which were the speakers. They tested fine but I still hear] no audio from youtube or itunes.

Please help. I knew I wuld find a solution on the internet. Thank you. If above answer did not work for you. Go to where you can uninstall programs. Unless otherwise noted, the instructions in this article apply to Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7. Laptop microphones can stop working as the result of a variety of software and hardware problems, including issues with settings, configurations, and even driver conflicts. To fix your laptop microphone, you’ll have to check the most common issues in each of these categories and fix any problems that you come across.

Here are the most common issues that may be behind your laptop microphone not working:. There are a number of laptop microphone problems that you can fix yourself without any special tools or knowledge. Other issues are more complicated and will require the assistance of a professional. To fix your laptop microphone, follow these steps in order:.

Make sure your microphone isn’t muted. Your laptop may have a physical microphone mute button that could have been pushed accidentally, in which case pushing that button or flipping that switch will fix the problem. Your microphone may also be muted in your sound settings. To check this:. If the microphone level and boost are set low in this menu, slide them to full and check to see if that helps.

Thank you. If above answer did not work for you. Go to where you can uninstall programs. There should then be a link that says updates or recent updates.

Click on that. Uninstall all window updates from July Not window security updates or office updates. Just July window updates. I found this answer on another forum where tons of people with various computer brands had the same problem. Thankfully some of them noticed it was right after an automatic update. After you do this you will need to restart your computer. When I did this screen said installing new window updates and I worried that everything I just took off would be put back on but that did not happen.

Volume working great now! Oh, this is for Windows 8 computers. To do this, launch alsamixer and make sure each column has a green 00 under it this can be toggled by pressing m :. To troubleshoot via CLI only, install pamixer and check the output of the following command:. If the output says muted , run pamixer -u to unmute.

If it displays a low percentage value, you can run pamixer -i 10 several times to turn up the volume gradually. In setups with multiple outputs e. This will cause amixer to ask PulseAudio to do the toggling rather than toggling it directly. Because of this, PulseAudio will correctly unmute Master as well as any applicable output.

If a specific application is muted or low while all else seems to be in order, it may be due to individual sink-input settings. With the offending application playing audio, run:. Find and make note of the index of the corresponding sink input. The properties: application. Ensure sane settings are present, specifically those of muted and volume. If the sink is muted, it can be unmuted by:. Try using larger values when changing volume e. This is because PulseAudio uses flat volumes by default, instead of relative volumes, relative to an absolute master volume.

If this is found to be inconvenient, asinine, or otherwise undesireable, relative volumes can be enabled by disabling flat volumes in the PulseAudio daemon’s configuration file:. Per default, it seems as if changing the volume in an application sets the global system volume to that level instead of only affecting the respective application.

Applications setting their volume on startup will therefore cause the system volume to “jump”. Fix this by disabling flat volumes, as demonstrated in the previous section. When Pulse comes back after a few seconds, applications will not alter the global system volume anymore but have their own volume level again. However, be aware that it may cause another bug preventing PulseAudio to unmute speakers when headphones or other audio devices are unplugged.

If changing the volume in specific applications or simply running an application changes the master output volume this is likely due to flat volumes mode of pulseaudio. Changing the Event Sounds volume in KMix or another volume mixer application will not help here. If all else fails, you can try to disable flat-volumes:. If audio generally works, but stops after resume from suspend, try “reloading” PulseAudio by executing:.

This is better than completely killing and restarting it pulseaudio -k followed by pulseaudio –start , because it does not break already running applications. If the above fixes your problem, you may wish to automate it, by creating a systemd service file.

Enable it for your user account i. Then restart the pulseaudio. Install alsa-tools and use:. Set “Not Connected” to everything but the ports you are using. It seems the other unused audio ports on the motherboard interfere with the used ones.

Then if you want use the Boot Override to save this change between reboots. There is a possibility it is the Front Green Headphone that is causing the bug, if you need it override the Front Microphone to Headphone and the Front Green Headphone to “Not Connected” and use the Front Microphone port as your headphone port. More info about this problem: [2]. This might cause some sound crackles when changing volume, in that case you might want to leave that option enabled and tweak the deferred-volume-safety-margin-usec and deferred-volume-extra-delay-usec options instead.

If everything worked correctly, you should now see your mic show up when running pavucontrol under the Input Devices tab. If PulseAudio uses the wrong microphone, and changing the Input Device with Pavucontrol did not help, take a look at alsamixer. It seems that Pavucontrol does not always set the input source correctly. Press F6 and choose your sound card, e. HDA Intel.
