Please tell me there’s a way to get Microsoft to review and verify “3rd-party” apps so we can download and use them without having to switch out of S Mode I would like to stay in S Mode, but also love to install a few apps that I need to use.

But, if I keep having issues, I’ll just leave S mode and download what I want and change my browser as I see fit Was this discussion helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. S mode is the worst thing I’ve seen come from Microsoft, ever.

Nobody who uses a computer should be limited to only use Microsoft applications. Just switch out and never look back. Or trade your computer in for a Mac, because otherwise it’s useless.

Was this reply helpful? The whole idea behind ‘S’ mode is that you are limited to apps from Microsoft Store and Microsoft Edge is your only browser. That’s why people buy a Windows ‘S’ computer in the first place. If that’s not what you wanted, then why did you buy a computer with Windows 10 ‘S’? Yeah my first experience with S mode has been less than optimal. Sure I like that it’s more secure, but its at the expense of being forced to use a App Store that simply isn’t filling in those gaps.

Also you can’t run CMD. I don’t find S mode is better with battery life, hardware resources or quicker updates. In fact you are reliant on Windows to update drivers as well. I think if the App Store had more support from third party developers the S mode would be a more acceptable option. Right now it’s not even close to being what most want or need in Windows OS. What an asinine thing to say. Most laptops are sold with S mode. Switching out of S mode should be as simple as pressing a button.

Unfortunately it’s not. Like most things Microsoft does this is one step forward two steps back. Over the last several years Microsoft has become an absolute mess. S mode functionality or should be called dysfunctionality and Windows activation errors. God forbid you purchased an upgrade key to go to Pro from home S mode.

Microsoft will no longer give you the upgrade key that you purchased. I have run an IT corporation for over 25 years. I am seeing more market share move to Chrome OS and Macs.

My company is now sending our techs for chrome and Mac training. We have stopped selling all laptops outside of Chrome books, macs and surface Pro with pro.

I agree with the last response, but for a different reason. Most of the population do not understand technology well enough. I know because I am one of them.

The sales pitch mentioned Windows I’m now stuck with partially effective software to protect me Threats include any threat of suicide, violence, or harm to another. Any content of an adult theme or inappropriate to a community web site.

I thought S mode would just block questionable apps, not normal mainstream ones like Overdrive from the public library. I chose it because I was very happy with the Surface 3, but this S mode has turned me against Microsoft computers.

I’m still waiting for someone buying a Windows S computer willingly and knowingly. That migh be a very small number of users. I had my first experience with S Mode buying a cheap HP laptop several months ago. It came with S Mode as does most cheaper low end laptops. I gave it a solid try over a couple weeks and honestly the only thing that caused me to upgrade to Windows Home was the lack of apps available in the Windows Store.

If you are going to rely solely on a apps store to install software you have to provide users with a complete App’s Store filled with Apps that users want to use. The first time you have to go outside of that for a application you will be forced to opt out of the S Mode.

I definitely think the concept is a good one for security, but it’s been so poorly implemented and supported that most won’t stick it out with S mode for very long. Like many other companies today, ‘s’ mode is meant to make it easier for microsoft to “Data-Mine, Phish, and Track” user’s activities so they can make money from selling that information.

Same reason microsoft tries to convince you to “stay signed-in” in mail apps!! Its easy to switch out just buy a new key. But I bought my Smode pc because it was cheap.
